COOH Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes
We start with our purified carbon nanotubes (produced by CVD methods) and perform a reflux in sulfuric / nitric acid to functionalize the surfaces of these nanotubes. This process results in a large concentration of carboxyl (-COOH) groups on the nanotube surface, and may also generate other groups (e.g. –OH) as well. After functionalization, these carboxylated nanotubes have 2-7 wt% COOH by titration.
